it’s been a while, huh?
admittedly i’ve been silent for three reasons:
1.) CDMX ignited a burst of creativity and i needed time to make sense of what i wanted to say and how i wanted to express it;
2.) i reflected on my previous posts and i needed to pivot — drifting from the sensitive, personal content and moving towards ideas that match my current sense of being, which is quite different than last year’s version of me;
3.) the imminent state of the world and American politics is paralyzing, leaving me with so much to say but unsure how to say it.
my sense of humanity is hyper-present nowadays and i’m arranging my thoughts more than ever. expect more essays to come and enjoy this collage of interests / influences / creative bids in the meantime.
with grace,

books up next on my reading list
Close to the Knives by David Wojnarowicz | a famous artist and AIDS activist, David reflects his life in the East Village art scene through this memoir.
Rave by Rainald Goetz | Pynchon-esque book positioned in 90s techno culture, full of dancing, drugs, daze, and thoughts
Miss Lonelyhearts by Nathanael West | a Depression-era advice columnist’s dismal confrontation with suffering
Fever Dream by Samanta Schweblin | a surrealist ghost story from a leading Mexican writer in the realm of horror
musicians i’ve been exploring
Yung Lean | not my usual listen, but found his music through a recent rabbit hole. think sedated, experimental rap against simple, dreamy productions. also inspired by the landscape vibes on his IG posts.
tracks: AGONY, Pikachu, Bliss
Crystal Castles | first heard them in 2008 when i watched the UK series SKINS and it fed my cool kid persona ever since. there’s an underground, techno chaos to the synchopated beats and fragmented melodies . . . practically the perfect soundtrack for nightclub culture.
tracks: Crimewave, Empathy, Affection
The Smashing Pumpkins | even though i was an angsty emo teenager, i wasn’t always the biggest fan until my mid-twenties. the soft to grungey vocals and power chords seem to pull at my musical heartstrings.
tracks: Today, Tonight, Tonight, Luna
Frédéric Chopin | surprisingly i’m a huge classical music lover and Chopin is one of my favorite. we’ve all heard his famous piano nocturnes — the gentle, sensitive melodies that emote a melancholic or elated nature to the ears.
tracks: Nocturne in C-sharp minor, Op. posth., Prélude Opus 28 No. 4 in E Minor, Piano Sonata No. 1 in C minor, Op. 4

films i want to check out
The Pianist | the slow unveiling of a pianist’s obsession with her desire and pleasure
Mulholland Drive | a David Lynch film on a woman’s suicidal spiral after the death of her lover
La Haine | a glimpse at France’s social issues through three friends after a violent riot
Bones and All | love story about two cannibal lovers through middle-America . . . also a Luca Guadagnino film so i had to watch it
